Your New Role:
- Report to Marketing Manager, Researcher Marketing – APAC.
- In this role, you will work closely with the Marketing Manager and serve as a strategic connector, leveraging the connections between the journal and researchers in the academic community to develop meaningful, data-informed engagement initiatives. These initiatives will transform outreach into collaborations, enhancing the journal's visibility, relevance, and impact through trusted relationships.
- The role will also work closely with Global Research Community Engagement team when identify any potential candidates for Editorial Board Members.
- This position will leverage the growth momentum of our STM portfolio by using researcher profiling and analytics to target Health and Life Science networks in China.
- The role will also develop incentive programs and activities, such as awards for researchers, to foster long-term brand loyalty and elevate Sage’s presence in the Greater China research community.
As Researcher Engagement Executive – Greater China, you will :
1. Strategic Researcher Engagement
- Leverage internal and external data to identify market trends and target senior researcher groups, designing and executing strategic engagement activities that align with Sage’s market positioning in Greater China.
- Engage with targeted senior researchers through email, video calls, and academic platforms (e.g., ResearchGate, Academia.edu) to understand their research focus and submission interests, and provide tailored recommendations for suitable journal sections or special issues.
- Participate in face-to-face engagement through academic events, such as academic conferences to network, with the aim to tailor marketing engagement activities to connect with senior researchers to build trust, strengthen relationships, and foster long-term loyalty.
- Through engagement activities, if any potential candidates for editorial board member are identified, the role will work closely and connect them with the Research Community Engagement Team.
2. Personalized Programs and Content
- Organize interactive academic activities (e.g., webinars, workshops, forum, and so on) to engage with researchers, including senior academics, Editor-in-Chief, editorial board members and guest editors, with the goal to nurturing relationships and drive article submissions.
- Launch researcher incentive programs to strengthen relationships with researchers: recognizing active contributors towards China priority titles, and offering rewards like pre-submission services, APC discounts, or annual academic gift packages.
- Design tailored-engagement programs, for different researcher segments such as 'First-Time Submission Guidance' for early-career scholars and 'Editorial Role Development Pathways' for senior researchers.
- Deliver tailored content based on researcher profiles by leveraging data on research fields, publication history, hot trending topics and academic activity to promote relevant Calls for Papers, special issues, or event invitations that drive submission.
- Develop interactive content toolkits, such as personalized journal recommendations, disciplinary trend reports, or shareable infographics to drive proactive engagement.
3. Recognition and Advocacy
- Showcase researcher experiences and achievements by producing features like "Behind the Paper" reports or interview series highlighting authors and reviewers, emphasizing the journal’s role in advancing their careers.
4. Influencer and Community Collaboration
- Partner with key opinion leaders (KOLs) to co-create content, such as blog articles, or video interviews (e.g., 'Editors in Dialogue with Top Authors') for social media, and leverage their networks for expand reach and visibility.
5. Feedback and Continuous Improvement
- Establish a continuous researcher feedback process by regularly communicating with senior researchers or academics to gather input on review speed, topic coverage, dissemination strategies, and sharing insights with the management team for ongoing improvement.

- Experience in scholarly community management, with expertise in designing engagement strategies aligned with academic culture.
- Ability to build trust through informal interactions (e.g., conference networking, virtual coffee chats) and cross-cultural sensitivity (for international journals). Translate journals’ value into tangible benefits addressing researchers’ needs (e.g., visibility, career growth).
- Balance expertise and approachability: Discuss disciplinary trends professionally while adopting a conversational tone to reduce perceived 'salesmanship.'
- Prior experience in junior editorial in STM.
