The Sage Learning Resources Editorial Internship offers current undergraduate college students the opportunity to learn more about the academic publishing industry while developing the skills needed to succeed in editorial positions.
Job Descriptions, Functions, and Responsibilities
The intern will learn about academic publishing and gain hands-on experience in the Learning Resources Editorial Team (LET). The intern will work across several interdisciplinary products developed for the library market, including Sage Business Cases, Sage Business Foundations, Sage Skills, Data Decisions, Sage Reference, CQ Researcher, and an upcoming social impact collection. They will engage in work pertaining to library and digital educational products that is project-based, varied, multi-faceted, intellectually challenging, and above all, collaborative. Interns assist, maintain, and help drive a range of editorial activities, including:
- Assist collection editors in conducting commissioning and outreach research
- Learn the peer review process and assist with peer reviewer assignments
- Conduct market research in ed-tech fields and assist with business school faculty and librarian research and outreach
- Assist Sage Reference in market research and basic editorial work
- Assist in updating and organizing the LET library of PowerPoint presentations and other shared resources
- Learn developmental editing best practices and perform light developmental editing on new submissions
- Assist Sage Skills and Data Decisions editors in basic editorial work, including reviewing content metadata for completeness and accuracy and generating ideas for video and non-text content
- Assist CQR editors in conducting original research and preparing graphic files and data visualizations for reports
- Provide user testing and feedback on new products and platforms
- Participate in regular and ad-hoc meetings
- Assist in other general tasks, such as preparing manuscripts for the production process and keeping information updated in our publishing systems and platforms
Schedule
This internship is a part-time (15-25 hours per week during normal office hours), paid position for the summer with the possibility of extending into future semesters based on the intern’s performance and continued interest. Interns will work remotely.
Qualifications and Education
This internship is best suited to self-starters who are curious, organized, take initiative, ask questions, share feedback, participate in meetings, and are passionate about higher education and the power and impact of social science and business and management research. Candidates should also possess a combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:
- Currently working toward the completion of a degree at an accredited university, preferably in English, Communication, Journalism, Marketing, Publishing, or related field.
- Must be highly proficient in the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Must be a quick learner and a self-starter who is comfortable working remotely under deadline
- Able to read, analyze, and interpret concepts, documents, requirements, etc.
- Able to maintain high level of confidentiality and professionalism and work with tact and diplomacy while maintaining a sense of humor
- Able to multitask while maintaining attention to detail
- Able to work in an ever-changing environment requiring flexibility
- Able to meet deadlines, show up for meetings, and work professionally under pressure
- Have exemplary internal/external customer communication skills
- Possess effective decision-making skills
